About Clare
I earned my math degree from the University of Oregon and have a decade of experience tutoring math and supporting students through their unique academic contexts.
My goal is to make math accessible, rewarding, and fun. My teaching style is highly interactive, and I emphasize the process of learning along with the outcome. I demystify math by teaching with clarity and integrating plenty of active practice. During lessons, my students are invited to share in my own love of math, and together we approach math with creativity, resilience, enthusiasm, and resourcefulness.
I especially welcome learners who are neurodivergent, who have math fear, and/or who have not yet reached their full potential.
Complete the syllogism:
We all have math brains, so we can all learn to solve math problems;
If you can learn to solve a math problem, then you can learn to solve any problem;
Therefore ...
Some of my favorite math topics to teach include: quadratic factoring; parameter estimation; solving linear equations in one variable; the Pythagorean theorem in its historical context; ratios and unit rates; techniques of integration; probability via games; word problems (all kinds)
Some of my favorite academic skills to coach include: information literacy; digital skills; how to read a textbook; notetaking techniques; self-advocacy and cultivating resilience

Clare is a rare gem as a tutor.
She is able to explain difficult concepts easily to her students (my kids range in age from 5 to 14). She keeps her students engaged and makes math interesting and fun.
My kids actually look forward to their session with Clare which speaks volumes of her dedication and skills.
As a parent, I can’t ask for more. We feel lucky to have her!

Clare is an amazing professional tutor. She has worked with both my 8th grade child on math and my 2nd grade child on distance learning tasks.
My older child would not have been as successful during distance learning without her. He was more successful in school with more confidence in math thanks to her support.
She is patient, kind, and positive with my younger student who experiences ADHD. She calmly redirects, restates instructions in ways he can understand and independently provides visual supports to guide his learning.
She is wonderful with parent feedback and will provide home practice to better gain skills between sessions.
I highly recommend Clare for all students, especially those with different learning needs.

Clare worked with me in preparation for the GRE. Math has always left me feeling insecure, but Clare’s infectious enthusiasm for the subject made the commitment of time to studying much less intimidating.
Her deep knowledge, patience, and abundant assurance put me at my best for test day.

Through working with Clare once a week my son not only learned the concepts of his class’s current math curriculum, but she helped prepare him for what was coming next.
He started seeing Clare for tutoring when he was having trouble keeping up and understanding the math concepts taught in middle school.
He became more inspired the more he learned and has gone on to surpass grade level expectations (by years!).
Clare helped my son set goals and plan next steps to make his academic dreams a reality.
When I ask him about his tutoring sessions he says, “She explains it so well,” and “She makes it fun!”
We are so thankful for the support and inspiration she has provided!

When I first started getting tutored I bounced around from different people and none of them seemed to bring me the resources, help, feedback, and positivity that Clare has.
She is a great and intelligent person that has helped me for years.
She is very reliable, caring, helpful, and understanding.
She is extremely trustworthy and explains things in a VERY easy-to-understand way.
Overall if you're on the lookout for an exceptional tutor, Clare is 100% your best bet.
